Street Works FAQs

How long does it take to receive my Street Works card after completing the course?

1

Following successful completion of your Street Works assessments, your results are submitted for processing to our awarding body CABWI. At this point, we’re able to apply for your Street Works card with SWQR. This usually arrives with us within 4 weeks of the course taking place.

Is the O6 - Reinstatement of Hot Lay Bituminous Materials (Hot Tar) unit covered on all courses?

2

The O6 - Hot Lay unit covers reinstatement using hot-lay bituminous materials. This unit is automatically included on every 5-day Street Works course & Reassessment using asphalt from our local quarry in Contin.

Which Street Works Qualification do I require?

3

The New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 (NRSWA) requires that each set of street works has at least one operative with a prescribed Street Works qualification on site while works are taking place. It also requires that in most cases, the works are supervised by a person with a prescribed Street Works supervisor qualification (sites that only involve opening the street, for example lifting access covers, do not have to be supervised). The supervisor does not need to be on site at all times and can supervise more than one set of works.

How do I renew my Street Works card?

4

Street Works cards have an expiry of 5 years. To renew these for another 5 years, one of our 2 Day Street Works Refreshers course can be completed.

Whilst the card is no longer valid for use on public roads/highways, a card can be renewed up to 5 years after it’s expiry date. After 5 years, a 5 Day course would be required to be completed to gain a new card.

Do I need to attend a Street Works Refresher before my card expires?

Can an Operative & Supervisor qualification be completed on the same course?

6

On 5 Day Initial courses, either an Operative or Supervisor award can be completed but not both. However, on 2 Day Street Works Refresher courses, a candidate can complete both Operative and Supervisor units, as we’ll be applying for two separate awards, there is an extra cost of £100 to cover these fees.

We supply all equipment, paperwork, and assessment material required for the course.

We would ask that you bring along the PPE requested in the joining instructions and your current Street Works card for Reassessment course.
