Classroom-based CPC training offers a much more interactive and engaging learning experience than virtual training. Drivers will benefit from interactive face-to-face discussions, practical training and immediate support from the trainer.

By the end of this course, drivers will be able to:

1. Identify major contributory factors to accidents and collisions in the transport sector, including speed awareness, observation, concentration, driver distractions and adverse weather conditions.

2. Interpret current road accident statistics and understand the involvement and proportional impact of HGVs and PCVs, including the balance of injuries and fatalities across vehicle types.

3. Explain the human, material and financial consequences of road accidents, recognising the wider personal, organisational and societal costs involved.

4. Assess common hazards on the road and describe the factors that affect safe hazard approach, such as speed, positioning and driver anticipation.

5. Recognise risks associated with low speed manoeuvring, including blind spot limitations, pedestrian proximity and site specific hazards.

6. Identify different types of road traffic accidents and recognise complications that can arise during emergency situations, such as secondary collisions, fire risks, vehicle instability or hazardous environments.

7. Describe and follow best practice accident procedures, including scene assessment, personal safety, protection of other road users, communication protocols and legal reporting requirements.

8. Demonstrate safe initial actions at an accident scene, including hazard identification, warning other traffic, and supporting emergency responders appropriately.

9. Apply techniques for resolving roadside conflict, understanding how to de escalate confrontations with other drivers, passengers or members of the public.

10. Recognise the causes and impacts of road related stress, and use practical strategies for managing stress during and after high pressure or emergency situations.
