What Is SEATS? Site Environmental Awareness Training in Scotland

If you work in construction or civil engineering and have, or are about to take on, supervisory responsibilities, you may have come across the term SEATS. But what does it actually mean and what does the training cover?

SEATS stands for Site Environmental Awareness Training Scheme. It is a one-day course designed for people working at supervisor level within the construction and civil engineering industries. The course covers relevant environmental legislation and the factors that can affect the environment on construction sites.

At ACT, we provide SEATS training from our Dingwall training center, just 15 minutes from Inverness, as well as at customer locations across the Highlands, Inverness, Aberdeen, Fort William and throughout Scotland.

What does SEATS training cover?

Construction work can have an impact on the environment in many different ways, from waste and water use to pollution, contamination and disturbance to neighbors.

The SEATS course gives supervisors a broad understanding of environmental responsibilities, sustainability issues and the challenges faced across the building, construction and civil engineering sectors in Scotland.

The course looks at areas including environmental legislation, environmental management systems, protecting ecosystems, reducing nuisance and disturbance, water consumption, pollution of watercourses, responsibly sourced timber, contamination on brownfield sites and the classification and disposal of waste.

Why is environmental awareness important on site?

Supervisors have an important role in making sure environmental control measures are followed on site. Understanding the potential impact of construction activities can help supervisors identify issues and put the right processes in place.

The course also looks at how supervisors can help protect watercourses, manage contamination, reduce waste and consider the impact construction can have on the surrounding environment.

SEATS provides a practical understanding of these responsibilities and the environmental considerations that come with working in construction and civil engineering.

ACT delivers SEATS training from our Dingwall training centre and at customer locations across Scotland.

The course is one day and is awarded through CITB Site Safety Plus. The certificate has an expiry period of 5 years.

The course is suitable for supervisors and anyone who is about to take on supervisory responsibilities within the construction and civil engineering industries.

We offer a wide range of CITB approved courses, for the full list visit our catalog.
