If you work in construction, engineering or another industry where you are responsible for health and safety, you have probably heard of the terms risk assessment and 'RAMS'. While they are closely connected, they are not quite the same thing and in this blog we are going to explain how.
A risk assessment looks at the hazards involved in a task, assesses the level of risk and considers what can be done to control that risk. RAMS, or Risk Assessment and Method Statement, takes this a step further by looking at the risks involved and setting out how the work will be carried out safely.
At ACT, we provide both Risk Assessment Training and Risk Assessment & Method Statement Training from our Dingwall training center and at customer locations across Inverness, the Highlands, Aberdeen, Fort William and throughout Scotland.
What is Risk Assessment Training?
Risk Assessment Training is designed to help delegates understand how to approach and carry out a risk assessment.
The course looks at identifying hazards, assessing risk and deciding how risks can be controlled. It also covers who should be involved in an assessment, how thorough the assessment should be and different ways of considering risk levels.
The course is suitable for anyone who is responsible for preparing or reviewing safety documentation in the workplace.
What is RAMS Training?
Risk Assessment & Method Statement Training looks at how to develop and create clear RAMS documentation for site operations.
The course covers areas including health and safety legislation, CDM, site operations, assessing risks, managing work schedules and planning, site operational hazards, HSEQ and developing bespoke RAMS.
It is particularly useful for people who need to prepare or review RAMS and want to understand how risk assessment and safe working methods come together when planning work.
So which course is right for you?
The two courses overlap, but the focus is slightly different.
