The Need for Confined Space Training in the Highlands

Here at ACT, we provide Confined Space Training courses aimed at a range of workers, from entry-level personnel to management. We believe areas like Fort William and Inverness are seeing more and more large-scale infrastructure projects, such as the Coire Glas hydro project, and we want to support the workforce behind these projects.

Who Needs Confined Space Training

Confined space training is needed for those entering confined spaces (supervised or unsupervised) and is essential for understanding the dangers and emergency responses involved. In the Highlands, these skills are extremely relevant across many industries, such as:

  • Construction

  • Infrastructure Maintenance

  • Industrial Cleaning

  • Rescue Teams

And many more. Whether you are simply looking to feel safer in your workplace or be trained to manage work carried out in confined spaces, we are here to help.

Which Course Is Best for You

Confined space work is divided into classifications, designed to inform you of the level of training required before working:

  • Low Risk - For shallow entries into non-complex areas

  • Medium Risk - For direct entry using fall arrest and retrieval devices (tripods)

  • High Risk - For work away from the entry point in hazardous areas

  • Rescue - For training rescue personnel

For a more in-depth look at the full risk specification, see here.

Here at ACT, we offer the full range of courses (as well as refresher programmes) to help you get to where you need to be. Our full range of courses can be found here.

What Is CITB?

All of our confined space courses have been approved by CITB, but what does this mean? The Construction Industry Training Board is the Industry Training Board for the UK construction industry, with the main focus on ensuring that the workforce is capable of meeting current and future demands in working safely and effectively.
