When To Take Your Street Works Refresher Course?
After gaining your SWQR through the five-day Street Works course, your certificate is valid for five years. Once it expires, you’ll need to book a refresher course to continue working on public roads.
Many people wait until the very end of their five years before booking their refresher, but you don’t have to wait the full five years. Here’s why.
Street Works Training | Fort William
When Can You Take Your Refresher Course?
You don’t need to wait until your SWQR card expires, or even until the last month of your certificate. You can take your refresher course up to a year before the expiry date. That way, you won’t get caught out.
It’s best to plan ahead and choose a time when work is likely to be less busy, making it easier to book/allocate the two days off needed to complete the course.
How Long Will the Refresher Course Take? What Does It Involve?
To book the Street Works Refresher Course, you must hold a valid SWQR card (or one that has expired within the last five years). If your card expired more than five years ago, or if you don’t have one, you’ll need to complete the 5-Day Street Works Course instead.
The Refresher Course runs over two full days and includes both classroom-based theory and practical learning. We are approved by CABWI and SWQR, and upon successful completion, we will apply for your new SWQR card on your behalf.
The following units will be reassessed during the course:
· Location of underground apparatus.
· Signing, lighting and guarding.
· Excavation in the highway.
· Reinstatement of compaction and backfill materials.
· Reinstatement of sub-base and road base non-bituminous materials.
· Reinstatement of cold-lay bituminous materials.
· Reinstatement of hot-lay bituminous materials.
· Reinstatement of modular surfaces and concrete footways
Grants
Do you pay the CITB Levy? If so, we will apply for the CITB Grant payment of £120 per person for all candidates who successfully complete this course
